Freshly made Brazil nut milk is in a league of its own—smooth, creamy, and naturally rich in selenium, a powerful antioxidant that supports immune function and thyroid health. Unlike store-bought versions, this homemade alternative is free from unnecessary additives, offering a pure and nutrient-dense plant-based milk that’s perfect for smoothies, porridge, or simply enjoyed on its own.

Soaking the Brazil nuts before blending not only softens them for a silkier texture but also helps reduce phytic acid—an anti-nutrient that can interfere with mineral absorption. This process enhances digestion and allows your body to better absorb essential nutrients like selenium, magnesium, and zinc. With just a few simple steps, you can create a wholesome, fresh milk that’s both nourishing and delicious.

Ingredients

The dates, vanilla powder and salt are optional. They add an extra level to the milk, but can be left out if you’d prefer a plain milk.

Method

Make the Homemade Brazil Nut Milk

Soak the Brazil Nuts

  1. Place the Brazil nuts in a bowl and cover with plenty of water. Let them soak for at least 8 hours or overnight. This softens them for blending and helps reduce phytic acid, making the nutrients more bioavailable.

Blend Everything Together

  1. Drain and rinse the soaked Brazil nuts, then add them to a blender with fresh water (fill to the 2L line on the blender), salt, dates, and vanilla powder. Blend on high speed for about 60 seconds until smooth.

Strain the Milk

  1. Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag (or a fine cheesecloth) over a bowl. Squeeze well to extract all the liquid.

Store and Enjoy

  1. Transfer your fresh Brazil milk to a glass bottle or jar and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Shake or stir well before use, as natural separation will occur.
