This Super Grain Power Porridge is the ultimate breakfast fuel, brimming with complex carbohydrates, healthy fats, fibre, and plant-based protein. The combination of oats, seeds, lentils, and dried fruit creates a creamy, satisfying porridge that’s as nutritious as it is delicious.

Oats provide slow-release energy, helping to maintain stable blood sugar levels and keep you feeling full for longer. Red lentils, added for extra protein and fibre, blend seamlessly into the mix. Seeds like hemp, chia, flax, pumpkin, and sunflower are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins, and minerals, while goji berries and raisins add a natural sweetness along with antioxidants and iron.

Finished with a drizzle of maple syrup and fresh berries, this porridge is perfect for fuelling your morning, post-workout recovery, or simply enjoying a wholesome start to your day. A delicious way to eat more plants and nourish your body from the inside out.

We often enjoy this porridge over two days. Once cooled, simply store it in the fridge. The next morning, add around 100ml of water to a pan along with the porridge and gently reheat over a low heat, stirring regularly. You can add a little more water if needed to loosen the texture. Warm through until piping hot, then serve and enjoy all over again.

We usually top this with a tablespoon of organic blackstrap molasses, maple syrup, date syrup, or a mix of both. A handful of fresh or frozen berries on top is also lovely for extra antioxidants and colour.

Blackstrap molasses is a particularly great option — it’s not just rich and flavourful, but also naturally high in essential minerals. Just one tablespoon provides a good source of calcium, magnesium, potassium, and iron, making it a nourishing way to sweeten your breakfast and support your body’s daily needs.

Per 1 tbsp (approx. 20g) of Meridian Organic Blackstrap Molasses:

  • Calcium: 100mg (25% RDA)
  • Magnesium: 36mg (10% RDA)
  • Potassium: 352mg (18% RDA)
  • Iron: 2.82mg (20% RDA)

Make the Super Grain Porridge

Prepare the Lentils:

  1. Rinse the red lentils thoroughly and boil in salted water for 10 minutes until very tender. Drain and set aside.

Cook the Porridge:

  1. Add all the remaining ingredients (except the lentils) to a large pan.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer over low heat.
  3. Cook for 5–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the water is absorbed and the porridge reaches your desired consistency. If it becomes too dry, add more water as needed.

Add the Lentils:

  1. Once the porridge is nearly ready, stir in the cooked lentils and mix well.

Serve:

  1. Divide into bowls and add maple syrup to taste at the table.
  2. Top with fresh berries, if desired.
