Method
Make the Homemade Brazil Nut Milk
Soak the Brazil Nuts
- Place the Brazil nuts in a bowl and cover with plenty of water. Let them soak for at least 8 hours or overnight. This softens them for blending and helps reduce phytic acid, making the nutrients more bioavailable.
Blend Everything Together
- Drain and rinse the soaked Brazil nuts, then add them to a blender with fresh water (fill to the 2L line on the blender), salt, dates, and vanilla powder. Blend on high speed for about 60 seconds until smooth.
Strain the Milk
- Pour the mixture through a nut milk bag (or a fine cheesecloth) over a bowl. Squeeze well to extract all the liquid.
Store and Enjoy
- Transfer your fresh Brazil milk to a glass bottle or jar and store in the fridge for up to 5 days. Shake or stir well before use, as natural separation will occur.
Phe's notes
Freshly made Brazil nut milk is in a league of its own. Smooth, creamy, and naturally rich in selenium, a powerful antioxidant that supports immune function and thyroid health. Unlike store-bought versions, this homemade alternative is free from unnecessary additives, offering a pure and nutrient-dense plant-based milk that’s perfect for smoothies, porridge, or simply enjoyed on its own.
Soaking the Brazil nuts before blending not only softens them for a silkier texture but also helps reduce phytic acid, an anti-nutrient that can interfere with mineral absorption. This process enhances digestion and allows your body to better absorb essential nutrients like selenium, magnesium, and zinc. With just a few simple steps, you can create a wholesome, fresh milk that’s both nourishing and delicious.
